We all know “coverflow” is pretty cool. You may or may not use it often. Previously we’ve covered how to view your system fonts with coverflow, but how about this neat trick to view your iCal events?
In Finder, switch to Cover Flow view mode (View -> As Cover Flow), then press Command-F to place the cursor in the Finder’s search box. To isolate Spotlight matches to just iCal events, enter kind:ical in the search box, then press the Space Bar, and type in the word or words that you’d like to find on those iCal events—Leopard in this example. At this point, you may or may not see matches in the results area!

I don’t know if this is common knowledge, but I accidently stumbled upon this widget trick. If you double click your Calendar widget, it shows you your appointments for the next hour or so from the iCal. So, I just have to move the mouse to a hotkey to see my schedule instead of launching iCal.

People already know that you can turn on the zoom option in finder (System Preferences/Universal Access option). Very useful, mainly on presentations, and the shortcut for that is “Command + Option + =” to zoom in and “Command + Option + -” to zoom out. It also works with “Control + Mouse Scroll”. However,

I have a lot of iCal events that I always want to reference with emails which have addresses and notes about that particular event. So I discovered that in the edit menu of each iCal event, there is a space for a URL. If you just simply drag the email you want from the Mail program over onto that url space, it provides a link to that email. That way, you dont necessarily have to write out all the info in that window. I hope this helps.

There’s a fast way to edit the title of an event in iCal without having the “pop up” window effect.
Just option-click on the event title whilst in iCal and watch as it highlights allowing you to change the event title without the event window popping up.

I remarked that in Leopard, iCal widget can now show events of the current day.
Bring Dashboard to front, if you have iCal widget onboard, click on the first square, the current day, and you’ll see the (usual) month view drawer pulled out at right. Now, click again, you’ll see appearing a new drawer. If you have some events in the current day, they will show up there in a list (otherwise, it will be a black square, that’s it). They are linked to iCal app, so if you click one of these events, iCal will start and bring you to this event.
It’s not a trick, I know, just an observation but since it’s a Leopard’ newbie, it looks very handy for me.
