Thanks for the great Shortcuts!
One question though, how do I “Hold Down Shit” ?
LOL, sorry I had to do this. Feel free to correct and delete my comment!

Haven’t seen the sleep one, but the rest have been posted.

The sleep combo is new and useful. thanks. Is there a key combination for locking the screen (without putting the computer to sleep)?

I think you missed a letter in the this sentence “Hold Down Shit = Slow Motion on Minimize/Maximize/Stack Load/…” My keyboard doesn’t come included with that key. And if it did I would never do “Slow Motion”… never!

The sleep one was new to me, but I just close the lid!
But seriously, I *LOVE* the detailed volume control one.

Hey insane-Dreamer, I don’t know of a way off the top of my head, but I’ve been using something called “SizzlingKeys” since coming to school, and it has a feature that allows you to lock your screen with the stroke of a button(s). I use ⌘ + \ as my keyboard shortcut. There are also other apps/scripts that do the same thing. I can’t recall what they are at the moment though…
SizzlingKeys has been very helpful for me since coming to school. I don’t like leaving my computer just on for whoever to use, but I never wanted to log out completely. It’s really convenient.

A neat little thing about the two selected screen shots; For the selected selection you don’t have to push space at the same time as the other keys, space is simply used to shift between the two. So, if you have the “selected area” marker you just push space to change, and vice versa =)

In the expose settings you can set lock screen to an active screen corner. I use the lower left, so a quick slide of the pointer into the lower left corner and the screen is locked.

Yes, the last one is perfectly fine for me too!!!
I also searched for a combination like it is known from Win
(WindowsButton + L), but I didn’t find one for Mac. So
I use active corners as well. It’s fast and easy!

hey greg
“SizzlingKeys” is an addition to i-tunes…
please explain
February 6th, 2008 at 5:59 am
sorry for the double
is there a combo for putting the screen, but not the hdd to sleep??
like the option in exposé. is there another way to do this, except with the active corners??
thank you!

For sleep (and presumably shut down and restart), F12 works in place of eject where you are using a non-Apple keyboard.

@ Duncan: Screenshots are saved to the desktop.
Anywho, lots of fun and useful tricks. Really like the invert screen and the volume controls. Thanks for the tips!

I use the hold shit down key and it ruined my computer. Now there is poop all smeared into my keyboard. Cannot believe I fell for that crap, no pun intended.

I have some questions about certain keyboard shortcuts:
1. on the desktop- the “force quit” command shortcut
2. on the apple toolbar – the “logout of _____” command shortcut
3. on safari – the “block pop-up windows” command shortcut
I’m a new mac user so i’m still confused on what some of those key symbols are!
any help would be great!!

once one has taken the screen capture, where is the captured shot? i cannot find the equivalent of the windows clipboard? or is the file stored somewhere?

@Knott & Duncan: The screeshot ends up on the desktop as PNG file.
One general advise: Simply go to your pref. panel > keyboard & mouse > keyboard shortcuts, there you have all those shortcuts and even more listed and can add and activate/deactevate them.

Detailed Volume Control: Shift + Alt + F4 or F5″ trick keys are not working.

Is there a way to group your ichat IM’s so that they’re all in one box???
February 19th, 2008 at 10:10 am
to gloria
There is a way i don’t know if there is a shortcut but to put all of your chats in one box you go to Prefrences(in iChat) then Messages (on the top bar) then go to the 3rd from the bottom.

@Gabi:
1. on the desktop- the “force quit” command shortcut
=Alt/Option+Command+Escape
2. on the apple toolbar – the “logout of _____” command shortcut
=Shift+Command+Q
3. on safari – the “block pop-up windows” command shortcut
=Shift+Command+K
The loop/cloverleaf/propeller symbol is the command key also referred to as the ‘Apple’ key (next to your spacebar)
The Alt/Option key will be marked as such on most American keyboards. The symbol looks like a straightened S with a horizontal line to the left.
Hope this helps

If the silent volume control doesn’t work with F4 + F5 then try Shift + your standard volume controls.
Same works with detailed volume controls, Shift + Alt + your standard volume buttons.
February 20th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
In added to that Control+Eject will give all the options for Sleep, Restart and Shutdown. It’s mac default one… In OS9 be careful you press control, since command will tend to hang the machine!

Richard: In System Preferences, Keyboard & Mouse, Keyboard button, make sure the “Use all F1, F2 etc. keys as standard function keys” is checked. Then try Shift + Alt + fn + F4 or F5 then it should work. Erik on Macbook Pro.
Another tip about Command Shift + 4 + Space = Selected Section Screen Shot: Some people only want to make a screenshot temporarily. So, having to locate and use the file can be a pain. Use the following command to put the screenshot to your clipboard (by adding the Control key to the sequence). Then just Command V to paste the screenshot from the clipboard:
Command Shift crtl + 4 + Space = Selected Section Screen Shot
