Removing and Rearranging Menu Bar Icons Dashboard - quick delete of Widgets

Check out http://www.blocksoft.net/docker.html and download “Docker.” It’s a great little app to change your leopard dock from 2D to 3D. The new version lets you add spaces between your docks, so you can have application groups. You can even change the color of the dock. Check it out.

    well,
    not really a trick is it? more like promoting this app wich is kinda useless

    you can simply change your dock from 3D to 2D by opening terminal and typing the command: defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES; killall Dock
    if you want to get it back to 3D make the YES a NO

    if you want to change the color or the app indicators use my tip (http://www.leopardtricks.com/leopard/changing-your-leopard-dock)

    to “add paces between your docks” in the dock (I think you mean between the applications in your dock ?) just download these seperators, you can find a lot of them on the internet, the basic idea is that you can only put applications in your dock so you just get yourself ’some’ file, make the icon the icon you want to use as seperator and change the extention of the file by adding .app to the name, that way your dock thinks its an application (btw. you can also put folders between your applications this way, you do have to remove the .app from the file name afterwards to open a folders…)
    example seperators: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/19733

    and another dock tip submitted by me myself and I http://www.leopardtricks.com/leopard/stacks-customizing

    so what I just tried to say is:
    you don’t need an application to do easy things, you just need to know where the tricks are, the creator of this application just wants to make money of it, or he just wanted to make a silly application. I mean you don’t download applications rename a file or a folder (do you?)

  3. Lee Says:

    Hey i downloaded docker and now i have this Blue translucent circle that will pan out all windows from a current program running. Can you please help me get rid of this its extremely annoying.

  4. Lee Says:

    it pans out the windows if i click on it…Its really wierd i opened up my activity monitor and cant find it in there either.

    That should help you get rid of the circle.

  6. Sally the Mac Says:

    @Lee

    That’s “The Blob”, Leopard Tricks have wrote about it before. See their post, it has terminal commands for enabling and disabling it: http://www.leopardtricks.com/leopard/tiger-and-leopard-easter-egg-the-blob

  7. Lee Says:

    Thanks For The Help, I feel like an idiot lol.

  8. Justin Says:

    Awesome app. Its donationware. You dont have to pay. Has some nice customizations.

  9. nu2mac Says:

    Thanks for the tips! Please disregard the ‘macsnobs’ that are quick to say something is obvious, useless, or trivial, because there are some of us out here (me for 1) that don’t consider ourselves the Yoda of mac. We are not the elite ultra-cool know alls that some pretend themselves to be, and for those of us that need and appreciate all the help we can get - many thanks! This site has taught me alot, and I really enjoy the widget too!

    Honestly, I have not found a better place to get excellent free tips/ tricks. Keep up the outstanding work!

    @Rc:
    „[…] you don’t download applications rename a file or a folder[…]“

    But what if you have to rename more than just one file or folder? You take the „renamer“ e.g.: http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/

  11. sgeve Says:

    I agree with Rc…a link to a “great little app” is not a Leopard tip or trick. How about this one? Here’s a little tip…there’s a great little app called MSN Messenger that you can download to chat for free with some of your friends…http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx…pretty cool, huh?
    And “nu2mac” (who is probably the same person who posted this “tip”), quit the name-calling and stick to the issues.

  12. conorjs1224 Says:

    To “sgeve”
    Not all of us have time to go find apps like these. A lot of us don’t like the dock and aren’t good enough in photoshop or in the system files to change it without an app. I was only providing a way so that people didn’t have to go through a lot of trouble to do what should be a simple thing. I know it might not be a “tip” but I still find it helpful, and I don’t appreciate the sarcasm.

  13. Casper2008 Says:

    I appreciate all of the tips, widgets, etc. I’m new to mac and slowly learning as I go. This is a fun little app to play with. :-)

  14. Tim Says:

    leoparddocks.com is a wonderful site for docks. Many, many different styles of docks. A must see.

  15. greg Says:

    If there is an easier way to tweak the dock than downloading a separate application, I know I’m interested. Rc, feel like sharing? I’m up for learning any other tricks you are willing to share, too.

  16. Rc Says:

    @ATP: if you want to change the names of more files then just 1, you sould use automator its a standard macOSX application

    @nu2mac
    [...]because there are some of us out here (me for 1) that don’t consider ourselves the Yoda of mac[...]
    I know that I know more of mac then you do, but if you even can’t do this easy things you should consider a course like “how to use a computer when you landed in the present time from the dark ages”
    another trick for nu2mac: when people say, now go up with your mouse, you don’t have to lift it from your desk.

    @greg: http://www.leopardtricks.com/leopard/changing-your-leopard-dock

    and for some nice dock’s: http://leoparddocks.com/ this one also tells you how to make your dock 2D
    http://leoparddocks.net/ this one I like the most

    for dock separators: http://www.google.com/search?hl=nl&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=dock+separators&spell=1

    I used the docker program as well. I used the settings/stacks tab to add spacer between my icons. What this does is actually is add a space and thus shrink the size of the icons. I added quite a bit of space on my dock but cant return it to its normal settings even when I return to my apple default settings. I want to get rid of the spaces between my icons completely have it as it was when I hadn’t installed dockers. How do I get this done?

    HEY, Stephane…

    To get rid of the spacers treat them as if they were icons and pull them out to hear the swoosh sound as the “disintegrate”they’ll disappear… try it!

    Hope it helps…. I had to play around this one because I had the same problem myself!

  19. Curby Says:

    @APT, If you know about regular expressions, you can save $20 by using a freeware script: http://curby.net/filelib/cbfmr/ =)

  20. Erin Says:

    Doesn’t work for me.. I’m running tiger and when I click “apply” the dock just disappear than reappear exactly in the same way it was.
