Okay so a couple weeks ago, I told you a way to get huge stickies. Okay so you made a sticky… whatever it is. It was really important, like… make sure to make reservations for friday night’s dinner. And then… you never open dashboard. It’s handy, you love it… but you don’t necessarily use dashboard every day. That’s why… there’s the Terminal!
Open it up and type in:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES
killall Dock
Now, you’re ready. Make the sticky. Now, click and drag it. While still clicking and dragging, press F12 or whatever you use for dashboard. The sticky is now on your desktop!

A couple of notes
*If you want the sticky back in your dashboard, click and drag, then open up dashboard using a function tree.
**If you no longer need the sticky, hold alt option over the sticky to get the x to show up
***If you no longer want the ability to drag widgets to and from the desktop, repeat the Terminal command with a NO instead of YES

why mess with shell if there is a stickies application in the apps folder? this stickies app actually allows you to do more- like change size, color of note and text and fonts plus you can make them translucent.

Yeah… Jeff is right. You waste alot of time and risk fuucking up your terminal if you mistype something. That is a very convoluted way to do it.
Just hold the apple button, tap the space bar, and type “stickies” push enter.
Ta-da.

Can someone figure out how to get different stickies to stay in different spaces.
For example, I use space one for work and space two for personal use. I would like to have notes from work stay with space one and my personal notes to stay in space two.
Thanks.

If you are using this tip and taking your stickies off of your dashboard then there is no way to use stickies with spaces.
But if you use the app. Stickies that is in your applications folder like Jeff mentioned then you can have different stickies in different spaces.
I do it all the time

Or, you could just use the Stickies app that is meant for the desktop.

Is there a way to set the default font in stickies?

Little app called Dasher … you can set it to open dashboard after so many minutes of inactivity …. set it to do this before screensaver kicks in …. them each time you sit back down Dashboard will be on directly under your screensaver …. so you will see the stickies you made from the tip …

The problem with using the stickies app. is that the stickies don’t actually stay on the desktop if you close the app…this is the same issue as not opening dashboard b/c you have to remember to open the app. Only thing with dashboard solves the issue.

So if I do this terminal hack can I have other widgets that are always visible on the desktop? (I’ve never messed with terminal but I have a particular widget that I would like to always be visible.)

i typed that in the terminal just as it was, and i get this error “unexpected argument kill all: leaving defaults unchanged.
whats wrong.

@Sam: Those are two separate commands. Type the “defaults” command, hit return, then type “killall Dock” then return.
@conorjs1244: Nice trick. What did you mean by this: “*If you want the sticky back in your dashboard, click and drag, then open up dashboard using a function tree.”
I have no idea what you mean by “using a function tree”.

@Nd dizdari: You can download the wallpaper at: http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/downloads/00546_lonelybeach_2560×1600.jpg
@Rithban: Thanks for answering Sam’s question. It’s a typo. I meant to say using a function KEY

Hey Conorjs 1224, I lost the “Stickies part One”, is there any way to find it?
Thanks

This works with any widget, just the same. I enjoy the pong clock on my desk top.

Does anyone know how to move a sticky across spaces? Or does anyone know of a sticky that would float across (stay on ) any space I went to. Sort of a multispace sticky? I often hop around the spaces to get things done and want to take info with me that I could put in the clipboard and make a new sticky where I went, but I want a multispace sticky.
