I think the point was that the initial problem was that there was no contextual browsing from the dock in Leopard. The suggestion of alias folders in stacks–while very cool–does not bring contextual browsing back to the dock.

10.5.2 WILL bring contextual browsing back to our docks, and that’s good news for us Mac users!

I think I can honestly say that stacks is one of the most memorable GUI guffaws Apple has had in years. Next time, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Thanks Randy–those have actually already been suggested several times on this site, but input is always welcome. The news here is that we won’t have to use “fixes” and “workarounds” to get what we want as soon as 10.5.2 comes out!

Simple fix: create a folder called Stacks, create category folders such as Office Stack, Graphics Stack, etc, then put alias/shortcuts to your apps in these folders. Even put shortcuts of the folder as “00″ to keep the custom icon along with a shortcut to the Application folder as “01″.

Actually this is confirmed, 10.5.2 has already been seeded to developers, and these fixes/features are present.
