If you think that your dashboard comes in to quickly try holding down shift before you press f12 or your mouse button or the icon. When you do this it will come in Very Slowly.
* James adds: a neat trick thats been around for a while now, works on stacks, spaces, expose, maximizing, minimizing, etc.

that works since tiger even in exposé an with all effects. I think it is for apple developing process. And because they like it so much
