Good tip but doesn’t work for me neither with my Canon IP4300, even if the “auto-close” contextual menu item is there.

For some reason, this maneuver doesn’t work for me — the printer icon always stays in the dock even though I click on the auto-clear choice….

yeah, but you can keep it in your dock and drag files to it to print. Why not keep it in your dock for this awesome quick drag and drop printing?

You can right-click by pressing Control first. You can also go to System Preferences and in the trackpad section, enable two-finger tapping for right-clicking.
