If you open Time Machine whilst making sure that Mail is the active application, it will open up a complete history (once you have set up Time Machine of course) of your inboxes, sent messages, drafts etc. Restored messages are placed into a new folder under Mailboxes. Very useful for finding accidentally deleted messages…

I tried to rebuild one of my mailbox accounts in the new macmail on leopard. It crashed the mailbox and deleted all 6 months of messages. My IT person said try to rebuild again, again it crashed macmail and deleted the 6 new messages. I went to time machine to recover the 6 months of messages. Time Machine made a new folder, saying Recovered messages, but when you open the mailbox, it is empty. So much for the back up.
