Pressing Option + Command + D hides the dock. Move the mouse to the bottom of the screen to show it. It Will ide again when your mouse moves away.

You know you can just go to the dock preferences and do that also.

Weird bug. I have my key layout set to dvorak, but this only works with the keyboard letter D, not the remapped D key.
