Custom Finder Window Toolbar Slow Motion Effects
Nov 05

I stumbled across this whilst searching for something else. I thought it’d be interesting for the site. Custom Dock Indicators. Basically you can alter the look of the dock by changing or replacing the images that make up the dock’s features.

Files are here: system>library>core services>dock.app>contents>resources (right click “dock” and show package contents)

some downloadable replacement images to alter your indicators, seperators, etc:

I’m not responsible for anything you mess up!

I found the folder and changed all of the png files but nothing changed on my dock

  3. James Says:

andy, I think you need to restart the dock, or finder, or your machine…

you could fire up terminal and try killall -HUP Finder. or just reboot perhaps

I cannot find the folder, in the system>library>core services> folder there is only dock.app no other sub folder.
I also searched indicator_large.png in the entire disk and did not found anything.
    How can I do?
    thank you

You will need to right click on the dock.app and view the package contents. You’ll find the png files located inside.

    thanks Chevy

Never mind I found it - sorry!

How has the ‘platform’ that the dock icons sit on been erased? The screen shots of the dock look so much nicer without the dreadful grey platform and the reflections are deeper. The png files that refer to the platform are easily identifiable in the dock folder, but I don’t want to remove or rename these if it’s going to mess things up - or if there is a simpler way.

I replaced the images and rebooted but nothings happened. For some reason it holds on to the old images. What are the exact steps you took to make this work?

  11. Matt Says:

yes, please give step by step explanation if possible… i got to the point where you said, but you didn’t tell us enough to change the indicators…

  13. Robby Says:

yeah i agree with gary how is it that you delete the “platform”?? it looks way nicer and in a way smoother than with it

  15. andy Says:

to restart dock pull up terminal and type “killall Dock” without the quotes

I just installed Leopard and have nothing but the most bizarre dock phenomena ever since, and this includes not being able to customize my dock despite following all the above instructions to the letter or even using the Pimpmydock app etc. Nothing changes no matter what I do. The one thing I am wondering about is that I use “DockMover” to pin my dock to the start (i.e. bottom left) position on the screen, but I moved it to the standard Apple places and still nothing changed. Should I re-install the Dock from my Leopard disc? Could it be that corrupted from the git-go? I want to join in on the fun with customizing my dock — any ideas out there?
