This tip is really useless but it looks really cool. This works with tiger, leopard and panther.
What this tip does is changes the whole look of your screen. All the colors turn opposite. For example : black would be white, and blue would be orange. Like negative. You can always change the color back to normal.
All you have to do to make your mac’s color change to inverted is hold down: the apple key, the option/alt key, and the control key (cmd-opt-ctrl-8). Then with those held down, you tap the letter 8 on the top of the letter I. Not the key pad 8 on top of 5!!!! It wont work if you use the keypad 8. You must use the 8 on top of the letters not numbers.
Remember: hold the apple key, control key, and alt key (all the to the left of the space bar) then while still holding them down you hit the 8 key. If you don’t like it or think its retarded just press the key combo again to restore it back to original colors. This is really cool. Try it. Please comment if u like it! -Chris J.

Cj, although this one’s been around a while, it’s pretty cool, I’m sure there’s a lot of people that didn’t know you could inverse/flip your screen’s colours.
I believe the feature was originally built into OS X for accessibility (people with vision impairments). neat

One place I actually use this is when reading web pages which are white text on a black background. I find those pages uncomfortable to read and simply avoid the issue.

I’ve always used this for reading web pages, write mail etc whilst sat out in the garden on a sunny day. Very useful.

wow, I didn’t realize that people used it much, but I can see where it’s useful (esp the white text on black background web pages)

I use this a lot when I’m reading long bodies of text or typing a report. The white on black is much easier on your eyes.

It’s actually not useless…you use less power projecting black (absence of color) instead of white. So if you’re on a battery and just working in a word processor doc (or something else that graphics don’t matter), you can squeeze a little more time before recharging by switching to negative.

Fantastically groovy.

Skov: This doesn’t save any power on an LCD screen due to the way they work. It saves a marginal amount on a CRT but unless you’re running on a UPS, it’s unlikely you care about battery life.

This is also helpful for those of you looking to disable the flash in Photo Booth. When the screen’s colors are inverted, the “flash” will be black, thus no flash! I read that awhile back on some site, and I thought that was pretty ingenious whoever thought of it. Just sharin’ the knowledge

This feature came to be really helpful when I had a nasty iritis (inflammation of the iris) a couple of years ago. My eyes were hypersensitive to light for several days. Thanks to this little screen trick, I was able to use my mac as usual without any pain. Granted, this is an extreme situation, but it’s nonetheless very useful when needed.
