By pressing alt/option + volume up/down/mute you jump directly to the audio settings in the system preferences.

Thanks for the tip, this also works in Mac OS X 10.4.11.
Simlar to this, holding option while pressing Display Brightness Up/Down take you to the Display Preference Pane. Option plus Keyboard Brightness Up/Down, takes you to the Keyboard & Mouse Preference Pane.
